Significance of Books of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo in Our Life

(Books in this article refer only to the Books of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother)

1. Life becomes purposeful, not purposeless

We get a solid clarity of purpose when we directly read the Books of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo. We wont get confused in this rat race of human life, we will stop living waywardly anylonger.

Sri Aurobindo:

…How shall the end be vain when God is guide?

2. Know the Truth of Existence of Our Life

Divine is already present within us, only fortunate human souls are aware of this greatest mystery of life.

If one reads Sri Aurobindo carefully one finds the answers to all that one wants to know. — The Mother, CWM

The Mother: The Divine is already there immanent within us, ourselves are that in our inmost reality and it is this reality that we have to manifest; it is that which constitutes the urge towards the divine living and makes necessary the creation of the life divine even in this material existence.

Turn all things to honey; this is the law of Divine living.

WHO

In the blue of the sky, in the green of the forest,

Whose is the hand that has painted the glow?

When the winds were asleep in the womb of the ether,

Who was it roused them and bade them to blow?

He is lost in the heart, in the cavern of Nature,

He is found in the brain where He builds up the thought:

In the pattern and bloom of the flowers He is woven,

In the luminous net of the stars He is caught.

In the strength of a man, in the beauty of woman,

In the laugh of a boy, in the blush of a girl;

The hand that sent Jupiter spinning through heaven,

Spends all its cunning to fashion a curl.

These are His works and His veils and His shadows;

But where is He then? by what name is He known?

Is He Brahma or Vishnu? a man or a woman?

Bodied or bodiless? twin or alone?

We have love for a boy who is dark and resplendent,

A woman is lord of us, naked and fierce.

We have seen Him a-muse on the snow of the mountains,

We have watched Him at work in the heart of the spheres.

We will tell the whole world of His ways and His cunning:

He has rapture of torture and passion and pain;

He delights in our sorrow and drives us to weeping,

Then lures with His joy and His beauty again.

All music is only the sound of His laughter,

All beauty the smile of His passionate bliss;

Our lives are His heart-beats, our rapture the bridal

Of Radha and Krishna, our love is their kiss.

He is strength that is loud in the blare of the trumpets,

And He rides in the car and He strikes in the spears;

He slays without stint and is full of compassion;

He wars for the world and its ultimate years.

In the sweep of the worlds, in the surge of the ages,

Ineffable, mighty, majestic and pure,

Beyond the last pinnacle seized by the thinker

He is throned in His seats that for ever endure.

The Master of man and his infinite Lover,

He is close to our hearts, had we vision to see;

We are blind with our pride and the pomp of our passions,

We are bound in our thoughts where we hold ourselves free.

It is He in the sun who is ageless and deathless,

And into the midnight His shadow is thrown;

When darkness was blind and engulfed within darkness,

He was seated within it immense and alone.

Sri Aurobindo (in Collected Poems)

3. Get Clarity on Various Subjects of Life

The Mother: It is not by books that Sri Aurobindo ought to be studied but by subjects — what he has said on the Divine, on Unity, on religion, on evolution, on education, on self-perfection, on supermind, etc., etc.

The Mother: If you want to know what Sri Aurobindo has said on a given subject, you must at least read all that he has written on that subject. You will then see that he has apparently said the most contradictory things. But when one has read everything, and understood a little, one perceives that all the contradictions complement each other and are organised and unified into an integral synthesis.

4. Help Make Our Psychic Beings Our Real Guide

Books really help us discover our Psychic Being, the true Guide who is present within. We have to listen to the Call of the Psychic Being, no matter what. It should not depend on any other circumstances, or any human relations, when we follow the Psychic Being.

Sri Aurobindo: Thy soul has strength and needs no other guide.

The Mother: There is only one solution, to find your psychic being and once it is found, to cling to it desperately, to let it guide you step by step whatever be the obstacles. That is the only solution.

The Mother: (About Savitri)

You know it is charged, fully charged with consciousness; as though Savitri were a being, a real guide.

5. Remove All Our Obstacles, Difficulties from Life

The more we read the books, the more enlightened we become within. We can face all difficulties of our life gradually without any fear or doubt.

The Mother: Every obstacle must disappear, in every part of the being, the

darkness of the ignorance must be replaced by the Divine’s knowledge.

6. Become A Complete and Evolved Being

We can know the value of the Divine way of living this life. These lower animal nature like arrogance, anger, hatred, jealousy, desire, ambition, will be replaced by higher divine nature like Love, Unity, Compassion, Generosity, Gratitude. We become more complete being and evolved in our consciousness.

The Mother: To become complete in being, in consciousness of being, in force of being, in delight of being and to live in this integrated completeness is the Divine living.

7. Replace Self-Love with Divine Love

We can know the futility of self-love, self-obsession, self-recognition. Instead we can know the power of Divine Love, which encompasses all, do not segregate any human beings, merges with the Universal Love. Only when we live in the Truth, we can manifest the Divine Love.

The Mother: Self-love is the great obstacle. Divine Love is the great remedy.

8. Increase Our Faith in the Divine

Books can inspire us to lead a conscious life by increasing our faith with each passing day. It is the Faith, that counts ultimately, in our Existence.

Faith is the part of the Soul which guides us to take the right decision at the right moment.

Sri Aurobindo says, Faith is the surest guide in the darkest days.

9. Ignite the Fire Within

Many people come to this world and go away from the world without any aim. Till the end of life, they fail to catch the fire within, the central fire of aspiration, fire of the Spirit. If we read the Books of The Mother, we wont be in that category of unfortunate few who could not know the Truth and lead an ordinary life.

We have to be that who will follow Sri Aurobindo:

A few have caught flame and risen to greater life.

The Mother:

The central fire is in the psychic being, but it can be lit in all the parts of the being.

Sri Aurobindo: And Spirit’s fires shall guide the earth’s blind force;

Sri Aurobindo: May the inner Sun tranquilise and illumine the mind and

awaken fully the heart and guide it.

10. Help Our Souls to Open to The Mother

Books help us remain open to The Mother only. We can remain quiet, and happy and confident and live with a sense of Infinite Love and Oneness, and live only for the Truth and not Falsehood or Darkness or Ignorance.

To Remain Open to the Mother: To remain always quiet and happy and confident, not restless, not grieving or desponding, to let her force work in you, guide you, give you knowledge, give you peace and Ananda. If you cannot keep yourself open, then aspire constantly but quietly that you may be open.

11. Lead us Towards Immortality

If we follow the lines of Life Divine and Savitri, it will take us towards the Path of Immortality. It will plant the seed of Immortality within.

The Mother: Savitri is a revelation, it is a meditation, it is a quest of the Infinite, of the Eternal. If it is read with this aspiration for Immortality, the reading itself will serve as a guide towards Immortality.

12. Become Our Real Friend in this Evolutionary Journey

If we make Savitri our Guide, it will truly become our Real Friend in the time of crisis and in the prosperity.

The Mother: It is truly the infallible guide who never abandons you; his

support is always there for him who wants to follow the path.

13. Participate in this Transformational Journey

Books help us in our Physical, Vital, Mental, and Spiritual Transformation.

The Mother: (About Savitri) — Savitri is a mantra for the transformation of the world.

14. Make our Living Concrete and Universal

If we know how to read Savitri, we can make our living concrete and universal. We can know our soul’s journey in toto, the announcement of Earth’s future.

The Mother: Indeed, Savitri is something concrete, living, it is all replete, packed with consciousness, it is the supreme knowledge above all human philosophies and religions. He has crammed the whole universe in a single book. Savitri, this prophetic vision of the world’s history, including the announcement of the earth’s future.

15. Books Teach Us True Knowledge of Existence

What is Knowledge?

Until one is the master of life and death, one knows nothing!”

What men call knowledge, is the reasoned acceptance of false

appearances. Wisdom looks behind the veil and sees.

The real knowledge comes of itself from within by the touch

of the Divine.

A knowledge in the fathomless heart of Time.

Everything must be transformed by the knowledge of the Truth.

As knowledge grows Light flames up from within.

Knowledge is trapped in the boundaries of mind.

Knowledge is incomplete without action.

How to Develop True Knowledge?

Knowledge does not come from the mind. It comes from the

profundities of the soul or from a higher consciousness. Man’s

role is to concentrate this knowledge in the physical world and

organise it in order to give action a rational basis…

A silent mind is the first step towards true knowledge and the

experience of the Divine. As knowledge grows Light flames up

within. Become and live the knowledge thou hast; then is thy

knowledge the living God within thee.

Cessation of thought and other vibrations is the climax of the

inner silence. When once one has got that, it is easier for

the true knowledge to come from above in place of the

mental thought.

All that one has learned externally must be only a foothold

enabling one to rise towards higher knowledge. If the

Knowledge is not supported by the Will, the Knowledge also

gets veiled gradually.
